The Julie Maxwell Shull Memorial Scholarship
Julie's perspective on life and the way she lived it reflected her love for and loyalty to family and friends. Despite health challenges that began at an early age, she showed resilience, optimism, and lived life to the fullest. As early as her teen years, she possessed a mature, evolved spirituality rooted in mindfulness and humanity. She was confident in who she was and curious about others, which manifested in an uncanny ability to connect with and befriend people of all ages and walks of life. As an educator, she not only inspired countless students to love reading and writing, introduced them to mindfulness and yoga, initiated and led a yoga club at Reed Intermediate School, but also "saw" them and interacted with them as a fellow human being, regardless of their age or capacities. She changed people's lives for the better and would sometimes lament not having studied to become a social worker. Regardless of her occupation, the result was the same; inside or outside of the classroom, she made people feel seen, appreciated, and loved.
